Simply Kicked-Up Kalua Pig Recipe

Making Kalua Pork is one of the most easiest Hawaiian dishes that you can make – it just takes time. Just like the Lau Lau recipe, when making Kalua Pig, you don’t need to go all out and dig a hole in the ground, gather rocks, ti leaves, build a fire and “imu” the pork. Nope, you can easily make Kalua in the convenient ol’ home oven or a slow cooker.

This recipe is a little kicked up version of Kalua Pork from how others typically make it. But it’s ooh so ono! Thanks to Mike over at T-shirt Printing Hawaii for the awesome recipe!

Kalua Pig Recipe

  • 4 # Pork Butt
  • 4 TBSP. Hawaiian Salt or Sea Salt
  • 1/2 CUP Liquid Smoke
  • 1/2 CUP Water
  • Bay Leaves
  • Crush Red Pepper Flakes

All you have to do is rub the salt onto the pork butt and place it in a pan or slow cooker. Add the rest of the seasonings. Cover completely. Cook it at 275 degrees F for 8 hours or 8 hours in the slow cooker. And PAU! Season it with salt if need be, then grind! You can add some chopped up cabbage if you’d like as well.
